Unbuild Together: Archaism vs. Modernity

The catalogue for the ‘Unbuild Together’ exhibition at Venice Biennale takes readers on a sensory, literary, and physical journey. It consists of three parts.

Part one: Introduces themes through visual associations—ruin, labyrinth, earth, history, and Uzbekistan’s landscapes.

Part two: Explores these themes in depth, questioning the duality between archaism and modernity. Contributions from experts delve into the works of S.P. Tolstov, Igor Savitsky, and the intriguing history of bricks in Central Asia and Bukhara. Studio ko shares its architectural approach and future plans.

Part three: A personal diary featuring photographer Emine Gözde Sevim.
We experience the workshops in Uzbekistan through her lens, witnessing the students’ passion, wonder, doubts, and discoveries amidst the captivating citadels, monuments, and capital.
