The Uzbekistan National Pavilion
La Biennale di Venezia

The Uzbekistan National Pavilion – La Biennale di Venezia is a space for research and exploration, a place where new types of knowledge about Uzbek culture are produced through meaningful dialogue between art and tradition, handcraft and technologies — the past, the present, and the future of the local Uzbekistan scene putting it in a global context.

The mission of the Pavillion is to bring together the best contributors from around the world, uniting masters and upcoming stars, mature professionals, young artists and curators from Uzbekistan. Together they reflect on the way to present and promote Uzbek national heritage on the global scene, bringing out the unknown features of the rich local traditions — art, literature, architecture, theater, music, and dance. The Pavilion, thus, becomes a space of encounters and a platform where ideas and thoughts intersect.

The National Pavilion appoints curators who develop all-encompassing projects highlighting various aspects of the local Uzbek cultural landscape. The aim is to question pre-existing narratives on the colonial past and present of Central Asian cultures and to challenge assumptions surrounding the country’s history.

Alongside important artistic production, the Uzbekistan National Pavilion fosters new talents by promoting professional training — the first team of carefully selected young art mediators will be accompanying guests through their visit to the Pavilion.
